DIT Pay Rates — Paying Your Dues

You're re-entering as a mid-level tech: you know the workflow, the gear, and the pipeline. The arc below starts at re-entry and tracks to Lead DIT, showing both non-union day rates and IATSE Local 600 scale for Southeast regional and major market (LA/NYC) context.

Annual Earnings Estimator

Adjust days worked per year to see realistic take-home across stages

120 days
40 (building reel) 120 (steady freelance) 220 (booked solid)
$150
$0 (none) $150 – $300 (mid) $500+ (full cart)

* Non-union rates are day-rate estimates; actual earnings depend on booking consistency, market, and negotiated overscale. IATSE rates per ICG Local 600 Eastern Region rate card 2024–2025 — DIT classification $691/day (8hr base). Kit fees are separate from union scale and are negotiated per show.

IATSE Local 600 Path (ICG)

For feature film and major streaming work, IATSE Local 600 (International Cinematographers Guild) covers the DIT classification. IATSE Local 695 covers some adjacent roles (playback, video assist) depending on production type.

1
Build Non-Union Credits
Accumulate DIT days on non-union features, streaming, and commercial work. Document every day with production contact info — you'll need to verify days for membership.
2
600-Day Qualifying Period
Work 30+ qualifying days in the classification within 12 consecutive months on a union signatory production, or accumulate 100 days total. Vary by local — verify with ICG 600 directly.
3
Initiation & Dues
Initiation fee typically $3,000–$6,500 depending on local and tier. Quarterly dues ~$90–$130. Access to H&W benefits (health, pension, annuity) kicks in after meeting minimum contribution thresholds.
4
Scale + Overscale
IATSE rates are minimums — working DITs on major productions negotiate overscale. A Lead DIT on a studio feature regularly earns $1,200–$2,000+/day all-in. Scale is the floor, not the ceiling.
Where to Find Work

Job Resources for DIT & Camera Crew

A frank guide to every platform worth your time — what each one is actually useful for, how to use it, and where Backstage fits into the picture.

Backstage
Mixed results for crew

Backstage is primarily a casting platform for actors, but it does list below-the-line crew roles — especially on indie features, short films, music videos, and low-budget streaming projects. Search "DIT," "data wrangler," or "camera department." Volume is inconsistent but the indie tier is exactly where you want re-entry credits from.

How to use it
  • Filter by crew (not talent) and set alerts for "DIT," "digital imaging," and "data wrangler"
  • Best for: indie shorts, music videos, student-adjacent projects, no-budget features building a reel
  • Not for: union work, high-end episodic, or commercials — those don't post here
  • Free tier limits applications — Pro subscription (~$10/mo) opens full access
Staff Me Up
Best for TV / non-union

The most active crew job board in the US for reality TV, documentary, digital, and mid-budget productions. 6,000+ live jobs at any given time. Solid DIT and data wrangler listings, particularly for unscripted and streaming work. Southeast market (Atlanta) is well-represented.

How to use it
  • Create a full crew profile with your credits, software skills, and gear list — productions browse profiles
  • Set job alerts for "DIT," "camera utility," "data wrangler," "digital loader"
  • Monthly subscription ~$20–30 unlocks full job list and profile visibility
  • Best for: reality, documentary, branded content, mid-budget streaming
Mandy.com
Indie / international

Long-running global crew network. Strong for indie features, short films, and commercial work. Less volume than Staff Me Up but often has DIT-specific listings, especially from smaller production companies and independent directors who post directly.

How to use it
  • Post a free crew profile — many productions search Mandy before posting a job
  • Use the job board and set "Camera & Lighting" + "DIT / Data" filters
  • Good for making yourself findable to indie directors and DPs building regular crews
ProductionHUB
Commercial / branded

Skews toward commercial, corporate, and branded content production. Good for finding DIT work on ad shoots, brand campaigns, and corporate video — often day-rate work that pays well and keeps you busy between features. Create a vendor/crew profile to be found by production companies.

How to use it
  • Create a free "crew member" profile with your DIT specialization and gear
  • Browse the job board under "Camera" and "Post Production" categories
  • Good pipeline for $400–$700/day commercial DIT work while building feature credits
EntertainmentCareers.net
Studio / staff roles

Aggregates staff and freelance openings from major studios, networks, and streaming platforms. More staff/long-term postings than day-rate gigs. Good for finding post-production DIT roles, media management positions, and dailies-lab adjacent work at companies like Netflix, Disney, Deluxe, and Technicolor.

How to use it
  • Search "digital imaging technician" and "data wrangler" with location filters
  • Set up email alerts — postings here often close fast
  • Best for staff DIT or hybrid roles while freelance pipeline is still building
Networking essential

Less useful for day-rate gig hunting, but essential for being found by DPs, producers, and production companies. A well-maintained LinkedIn profile with your software stack (Silverstack, LiveGrade, Resolve), gear list, and credits makes you searchable. Also monitors for staff DIT and workflow roles at post houses.

How to use it
  • Headline: "Digital Imaging Technician | DaVinci Resolve · Silverstack · LiveGrade"
  • Connect with DPs, camera operators, and ACs in your market — they hire DITs
  • Follow ICG Local 600, Pomfort, ARRI, and RED for industry signal
  • Job alerts for "DIT" + "data wrangler" surface occasional staff openings
ICG Local 600 Member Board
Union only (future state)

Once you're a member, ICG Local 600's member board and roster are how productions find union DITs. Not accessible before membership, but worth knowing: productions pulling crew through the local will search the roster by classification and location. This is the endgame for feature and streaming work.

How to use it
  • Pre-membership: attend Local 600 mixers and networking events in Atlanta / Raleigh area
  • Post-membership: keep your roster entry updated with credits and contact info
  • The roster is how a production coordinator at 2am finds a DIT for a Monday shoot
NC Film Office / Atlanta Film
Southeast market key

Your home turf advantage. North Carolina and Georgia are major production hubs with robust tax incentives. The NC Film Office maintains a crew directory — get listed. Atlanta Film posts regional crew calls and networking events. These offices often refer productions to local crew directly.

How to use it
  • Register in the NC Film Office crew directory with your DIT classification
  • Attend NC and Atlanta film commission events — productions actively recruit local crew
  • Regional work pays 0.80–0.90× major market rates but has lower competition and travel costs
  • Georgia's 30% tax credit drives consistent studio and streaming production volume
The real pipeline is referral. Most DIT day-rate work comes through DPs, 1st ACs, and producers who already know you. Every job board is a supplement to — not a substitute for — building relationships with your camera department network. The Southeast production community is tight; one DP who trusts you is worth more than 50 cold applications.
